A Warm Welcome Back from the PTA President

Dear Centennial Community,

Let me be the first to welcome back our returning Centennial families and welcome all new families to our August Edition of the Comet Connection!  We're so glad you're here!

Summer has flown by and it is hard to believe that school starts this month! Your Centennial PTA has been working hard all summer to help you get the 2017-2018 school year started off with a BANG!  This Centennial PTA Newsletter is filled with important information such as links and dates, so please take a moment to read through it to find everything you need to know between now and the first bell!

In addition to all the wonderful programs you've come to expect from the Centennial PTA, we are very excited to announce the addition of several new programs to Centennial this year.  We'll be introducing a Cultural Arts Family Night, the WATCH D.O.G.S. program, a new enrichment program called PowerKids, and a newsletter feature called "Spotlight: Centennial," where we will get to know more about a Centennial staff member you may not have had a chance to connect with yet!  Be sure to explore our updated Centennial PTA site to learn about all of these programs and more!

The Centennial PTA is a vital part of the Centennial community, working with other parents and teachers to enrich student experiences and support the fantastic staff and curriculum.  We know that a strong parent / teacher partnership is beneficial to ALL children.  I invite you to learn more about the PTAand get involved.  The first step to get involved is to join our PTA membership.   All are welcome, and together, we make a stronger Centennial!

It's going to be a great year!

Best wishes, Ashley Hamilton, Centennial PTA President

Backpack Buddies!

Mendenhall Elementary is our sister school in East Plano. It is one of the oldest Plano elementary schools and is comprised of a very high percentage of students in need.  We begin our school year by supporting education at our sister school with a back-                                                  to-school basic: BACKPACKS!

If you are school shopping for a new backpack, we ask that you please pick up an extra new backpack to donate to our Mendenhall friends.  Or, if you have a clean and gently used backpack in great condition, please donate that! Look for the donation bin in the Centennial lobby on Meet the Teacher day, Friday, August 18. We will continue to collect through the first week of school, August 21-25th. Your donation can make a huge difference to another student and we thank you for helping those in need! Questions? Contact Julie Liberman at mendenhall@centennialpta.net

Please Donate Box Tops!

One easy way to help the PTA provide all of the fun and educational events and programs for Centennial students is by saving the “Boxtops for Education” coupons from the products you purchase everyday. One “Boxtop” is worth 10 cents. If every student saves just 10 “Boxtops” this summer, that would be over $700! Boxtops are found on many products, such as Pillsbury, General Mills cereals, Ziplock bags, Progresso, Chex Mix and many, many more. Just snip the “Boxtop coupon” off the packaging and save them - so easy! Please help Centennial PTA with this simple fundraiser!
